Art Virtual Field Trip to Netherlands

Students in Ms. LePlaPlattenier's Art class had a chance to connect via Skype with a  curator in the Netherlands who explained the life and works of Vincent Van Gogh in addition to using her screen as a guide to show them around her town specifically the Vincent Van Gogh Museum. She also used Google Earth to help them orient themselves.

Skype with a Soldier

Several of our Gattis classes wrote letters of encouragement to Soldiers deployed in the Middle East.  This was great writing exercise and a way for them to give back to those who serve.  On Veterans Day, one of the Soldiers they wrote to surprised them by flying in and speaking to the whole school and then individual classes.  Fourth students were so excited they continued to write other soldiers and had a chance to then Skype with one as seen here in the image below. Although technology wasn't used in the writing itself, it was key in the communication with the soldiers and getting information that the classes needed for this worthwhile project.

Skype to Saskatchewan, Canada

Have you talked to students in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada? First Graders at Gattis have! They took a virtual trip via Skype. The students of Moose Jaw shared some of their favorite book suggestions with Gattis students this week. Each student walked up to the webcam and showed their book and gave a summary. And of course they did talk about the weather.
