Ozobots - Mini Robots

Students had an opportunity to work with ozobots during Makers Monday in the Library as well as in rotations in Grade 5 classes with Ms. Buckles and in Ms. Carlson's 2nd Grade class as well.  Ozobots are little robots that use code to turn, spin, speed up and do other tricks. Miss Hintz's favorite trick is "The Tornado".  Ask your students about them.

Art Stop Motion Animations

Mrs. Scalan is combining Art and Technology in her Art Room. Here are three practice stop motion videos. ovie. This was a great way to dive into how to create a stop motion movie.  These 5th Graders were asked to keep Students were directed to look around the room and use anything around the room to come up with a stop motion video. After just a few class periods, here are some of the products. 

Digital Graphic Art Logos

In Mrs. Scalan's Art classes 5th graders collaborated in groups and came up with an existing product such as skateboard, guitar, t-shirt, etc, and then decided upon an overall theme for their product design. They learned about logo design and then created their own logo in the Google Chrome App "Sumo Paint". Also, students are to think of a slogan to accompany their logo which connects to their chosen theme. Their final assignment is to create their own individual design for their group's chosen product. Their design must fit within their group's chosen theme. 

Students Produce Newsletters

Google Docs is a great place to build a project. You can collaborate with other writers, get comments from your teachers, and publish your final project, all online.  Check out this Newsletter by one of our own 5th Graders.

StemScopes and Think Through Math

As 5th Grade students prepare for the upcoming STAAR Tests, they look to online resources that the district has provided.  Stemscopes and Think Through Math are two of the resources they went to the most. Students can work at their own pace and can even access their accounts from home.  Students were loving it so much they were aleady asking if they could use them in the summer months!

Preparing for STAAR goes Interactive

As classes prepare for the upcoming STAAR Tests, they get interactive with Promethean Boards and Voting Devices.  Here are just a few examples of a 5th Grade Science, 4th and 3rd Grade Math Review Flipcharts.  Using the voting devices is a great way for teachers to get instant feedback on what skills need further review.

Technology Used in Science Fair Projects

Gattis had it's annual Science Fair on Jan. 26th. Several Students incorporated technology into their projects. Graphs for data collection and results, digital photos, word processing, research on the internet and more! Check out some of these projects!
