Google Apps for Students

Here at Gattis we are a Google Apps for Education (GAFE) campus and district.  This week a few third grade classes got started with their Google Accounts. We logged into google accounts, opened and deleted an email and composed and email and sent it. Students learned how to navigate to Google Apps and signing in and out of our Google Accounts before logging off the machine. Students are not able to email other students, but they can collaborate on documents and presentations.

Happy Digital Learning Day!

Happy Digital Learning Day!  Many classes here at Gattis took on the challenge of doing a lesson or activity digitally.  Here are just some examples of what was happening around the school!  Ms. Carlson’s 2nd Grade class did digital Poetry at ReadWriteThink Shape Poem Generator, here are a few images of poems from her class.

Many 4th Grade classes worked on Think Through Math in their classrooms on netbooks.  Mrs. Dawson’s 3rd Grade class used Animal Research to build PowerPoint presentations.  Mrs. Tilger’s 3rd Grade class used this interactive clock on their Promethean Board in their classroom (see the image below).

3rd Grade Writing

Third Grade Students in Ms. Kasper's class have been working on Personal Narratives. To complete their writing they published pieces in the computer lab. Students were able to put their own personal "flair" on their writing by changing the font size, and style. They were able to navigate to their individual folders on the server to save their work. Here is just a sample of writing.

Preparing for STAAR goes Interactive

As classes prepare for the upcoming STAAR Tests, they get interactive with Promethean Boards and Voting Devices.  Here are just a few examples of a 5th Grade Science, 4th and 3rd Grade Math Review Flipcharts.  Using the voting devices is a great way for teachers to get instant feedback on what skills need further review.
